Great Rivers Chapter MMN Annual Picnic at Little Creek

June, 2025
by Eileen Kinsella, Class of 2021

On Tuesday, June 17, Great Rivers Chapter held the annual picnic at Little Creek Nature Area, a Great Rivers, Missouri Department of Conservation and Audubon Center at Riverlands project partner. The 97-acre site has served the entire school district for 50 years. All grade levels have access to nature based learning experiences, science curriculum, and immersive experience in varied habitats.

With light breezes, lush trees offering shade, clouds moving through the sky, we visited over a pot luck supper near the pasture area. After an overview of the site history and its community service, we hiked a trail with site director and teacher, Donald Gibson, featuring a discovery pond/wetland, prairie, and woodland habitat.
Holding a GR gathering at an urban ecological restoration area and learning more about its important work and many volunteer opportunities available for GR chapter members brought us together with a valued project partner as a Missouri Master Naturalist community. Consider volunteering at this unique gem!
