Shadows in the Sunrise

My church, Trinity Church in Kirkwood, is hosting an art exhibition titled "Ponder Anew", featuring art and poetry that reflects on the subject of wonder and amazement. I chose to submit a poem I had written on the wonder of Creation, about how a hummingbird once reminded me of hope in a dark moment. I believe Nature is one of God's greatest gifts to us, and I am always looking for ways to encourage the people around me to see and love the natural world, so that they will be inspired to want to care for it.

I had recently been marveling at fellow Master Naturalist Don Bauer's hummingbird photographs on facebook, and asked him for permission to use one of them to display with my poem. He graciously agreed. This photo was perfect, a hummingbird in the shadows with the sunlight beaming through a gap in the leaves.
